FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swim team had one student-athlete qualify for the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

Charlotte Fletcher-Stables used a 100-yard backstroke time of 55.17 to earn the individual invite to the 2024 championships, hosted by Lake Erie College. Head swim coach, Ksenia Gromova is excited to see what Fletcher-Stables can do on the national scene after qualifying in 17th-place, "She has a good chance to fight for the finals at NCAA's," said Gromova, "The top-16 swimmers will swim in the finals and Charlotte has strong will; if she works on setting her mind on a certain goal, chances are very high that she achieves it. She does really well under pressure, which is great considering the scale of the meet that we are going to. She loves swim meets and she loves competing. She was looking at our Nanooks record board the other day saying she'd like to be on it. I love that ambition and I share it. I am very excited to see what she can do moving forward."

The 100-yard backstroke is set to be raced on Friday, March 15 on day four of the NCAA Championships. Trials are set to begin at 6:00 a.m. AKST with the finals taking place the same day at 1:30 p.m. AKST. 

Fletcher-Stables' conference championships run ended with a bang at the 2024 PCSC Conference Championships as the grad-transfer picked up a PCSC title in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a winning time of  55.17 after a 56.58 in the prelims. She becomes the first Nanooks swim athlete to compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships since Oda Bygdnes qualified in the 100-yard butterfly in 2018-19.
