MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - After one day and two events of the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships, the Nanooks swim team currently sits in third-place with 112 points.
On day one, the PCSC Championships saw the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay races raced. In the 1000-yard free, the Nanooks had a pair of top-10 finishes.
Payton Wojciechowicz led the way for the Nanooks with a sixth-place finish, posting a new fastest time with a finals time of 10:30.51, besting her seed time of 10:41.06. This finish earned 24 points for the Nanooks.
Tori Shoemaker followed in eighth-place; she posted a time of 10:32.12 for 22 points. She also bested her seed time, beating it by seven seconds (10:39.49).
The final scoring Nanooks racer was
Naomi Burgan. The junior posted an 11th-place finish, earning 16 points for Alaska. She used a 15-second improvement from seed time to finals time to earn the 11th-place finish. Her finals time was a 10:44.86 in comparison to her 11:00.88 seed time.
Two more racers rounded out the Nanooks racers in the 1000-yard freestyle as
Meah McCallum took 33rd with a time of 11:28.78 and
Kylee Carter took 35th with a time of 12:11.26. McCallum took over 15 seconds off of her seed time (11:44.25) while Carter took off just under 17 full seconds (12:28.16).
In the 200-yard medley relay race, the Nanooks earned 50 points behind a fifth-place finish and time of 1:46.22. The team was made up of
Charlotte Fletcher-Stables,
Dorka Dancsok,
Adeline Berry and
Lainey Lioi. After one day of races, Azusa Pacific sits in first with 165 points. Loyola Marymount follows in second with 117 points and Alaska sits in third with 112. Cal State East Bay is the only other team with over 100 points, checking in at fourth with 106 points.
Alaska returns to the pool tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. AKST for day two of the PCSC Championships.
