FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks swim team won its second consecutive dual meet on Saturday morning when they defeated Fresno Pacific. Alaska lost just one event during the meet, beating FPU 147-57.
Alaska started with the 200-yard medley relay, with Charlotte Fletcher-Stables, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel and Janci Pangburn coming in with a 1:50.38 to take first.
The Nanooks placed first in the following event, as Tori Shoemaker posted an 11:03.51 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, which was good for the top finish. Payton Wojciechowicz followed in second place with a final time of 11:10.85. The 200-yard freestyle came next, with Sam Bristor finishing with a 2:01.48 to place first for the Nanooks. Pangburn came in fourth in the event, recording a 2:03.06.Â
FPU's Jillian Lambert collected its first win of the morning, logging a time of 24.88 in the 50-yard freestyle. Ali Pecore finished .11 seconds behind the Sunbirds swimmer, taking second with a 24.99. Jordan O'Connor's 25.14 gave her third place, while Fletcher-Stables took fifth, posting a 26.14. In the 400-yard IM, the Nanooks finished 1-2-3, with Dancsok collecting the win at 4:52.25, while Naomi Burgan (5:00.41) and Charisma Watkins (5:05.30) took second and third, respectively. Schmiedel earned her first victory of the meet in the sixth event, posting a 2:17.88 in the 200-yard butterfly. Adeline Berry took third with a 2:25.17, while Kaidence Sampsel finished in fourth, recording a 2:47.60. The Nanooks followed that with another 1-2-3 finish, as Pangburn (54.70), Bristor (56.31) and Eva Markovic (57.62) led the way in the 100-yard freestyle.
Fletcher-Stables was the top swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke, as her 2:11.59 paced all swimmers in the event. O'Connor followed in second, finishing at 2:13.20, and Watkins' 2:23.49 put her fourth. Pecore and Wojciechowicz were the top two finishers in the 500-yard freestyle; Pecore won the event with a 5:25.09, while Wojciechowicz took second at 5:31.84. The tenth event of the meet saw Dancsok notch her second win today, as her 2:30.02 was good enough for a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Schmiedel came in with a 2:32.92 to take second for Alaska.
The Nanooks wrapped up the day by taking first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Pecore, O'Connor, Bristor and Pangburn put up a 1:38.87 to win the event.Â
The Nanooks return to action at the Logger Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., with the first meet on Friday, November 22.
