Nanooks Fall to Vikings in Tough Matchup

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks fell to the Vikings of Western Washington on Saturday, Jan. 6.

WWU came out strong in the first quarter as the 'Nooks managed only one field goal in the opening 10 minutes. The Vikings were not strong from the floor either, going 5-17 (29.41%), but they held a 17-5 lead after the first. The deficit grew in the second quarter as WWU posted a 29-10 scoring advantage going into the halftime break.

Out of the break, the Nanooks offense founds it's footing; going 5-13 from the floor, shooting 38.46%. They repeated the performance in the fourth, posting another improved quarter. Unfortunately Western's two-way play style overwhelmed the 'Nooks as they were forced into 22 turnovers while Western also shot 46.9% from the floor compared to the Nanooks' 29.2% day.

Emma McKenney led the Nanooks with 13 points. She connected twice from deep and added three assists, two rebounds and a steal. Taryn Lindsey added nine points and went 7-8 from the free-throw line. The 'Nooks are back in action next weekend when they visit their in-state rivals, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Jan. 13.
