McKenney spent time at two high schools. At Marist High School, she was First Team All-League as a sophomore as well as First Team All-State. As a junior, she was the 5A Midwestern League MVP, First Team All-State selection and a 5A Oregon State champion. As a senior, she played at Springfield High School and was a First Team All-League and First Team All-State selection. She then went to Lane Community College and was Second Team All-League and First Team All-NWAC in her time.
