ANCHORAGE - The Nanooks women's basketball team fell to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday, Jan. 13. This drops the Nanooks to 2-13, 0-5 GNAC.
Out of the gates, the Seawolves held a quick lead, outscoring the Nanooks 24-15 in the first quarter. They jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before
Emma McKenney connected from deep to make it 7-3 UAA. They quickly answered back with eight-straight points, making it 15-3 Seawolves. The Nanooks slowed the UAA offense a tad as
Ellen Silva went for four-straight points,
Jayda Van Dyke hit a three and
Emma Wass made a jumper, making it a nine-point deficit. A pair of free throws from Van Dyke made it 24-15 to end the quarter.
Taryn Lindsey opened up the scoring in the second, pulling Alaska within seven points before UAA turned it around and their lead grew to 14. Their lead would grow to as much as 16 before going into the break up 15.Â
Heading into the third, the Nanooks started off hot, making it a six-point game in the opening five minutes. They used a couple of buckets from Wass, a jumper and layup from Lindsey and Van Dyke and a jumper from
Ellen Silva. After pulling within 50-44, UAA responded with 10-straight points to make it 60-44 after three. In the fourth, the Nanooks ran out of steam as Anchorage grew their lead to 28 before taking the win by 29 at 84-55.Â
Emma Wass ended the night with a double-double, posting 14 points on 6-11 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Ellen Silva ended with a near double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, shooting 5-10 from the floor.Â
The Nanooks hit the road next week and head to Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington on Jan. 18 and 20.Â
