Nanooks Welcome Simon Fraser and Western Washington to Town to Open 2024

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team opens up 2024 at home this week with Simon Fraser and Western Washington.

Last Time Out
It's the Nanooks' first matchups since Nov. 30, 2023 at Seattle Pacific and Dec. 2, 2023 at Montana State Billings. The Nanooks fell in both GNAC matchups, 70-43 at SPU and 88-40 at MSUB.

  • This week will highlight the Nanooks' first home games since the 2023 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational when they beat CSUSB 70-62 and Covenant 59-55.
  • Emma Wass currently sits in 16th in the NCAA Division II for total rebounds with 123 on the season. That is good for second in the GNAC. 
  • She is also third in the nation in defensive rebounds per game with 8.6. That leads the GNAC.
  • Ellen Silva in the top-100 alongside Wass for rebounds per game, grabbing 8.0 per game, good for 96th in the nation and sixth in the GNAC. Wass' 10.2 is 19th in the nation and second in the conference.

Home Court Advantage
The Nanooks are currently 2-0 on their home court, both coming against non-conference opponents. Their 2-0 record during the Mt. McKinley Bank NSI was the first time they'd ever gone undefeated in the tournament.

The Nanooks are led by Emma McKenney and Destiny Reimers when it comes to assists. McKenney leads the way with 32 total assists while Reimers follows with 22. 

Efficiency Report
Kayla Johnson is leading the way in field goal percentage, shooting 45% from the floor (50-111) to post 10.3 points per game through the first dozen games this season. She's added 4.5 rebounds per game and a team-high 11 steals. She's tied with Jayda Van Dyke for the team-lead in steals. Anna Nevison has been lights out from beyond the arc this season. She's 10-22 from the field while going 9-20 from three for a 45% mark.
