LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Nanooks swim team finished the PCSC Championships at ELAC with 439 points, finishing ninth-place at the conference championships meet.Â
On the final day of championships, the Nanooks had seven individuals and one relay team make the finals.
Payton Wojciechowicz and
Tori Shoemaker made the finals in the 1650-yard freestyle,Â
Camille Dayton made the finals in the 200-yard backstroke,
Caroline McCormick and
Naomi Burgan made the finals in the 200-yard breaststroke,
Sophia Ruppert and
Mesa Moran made the finals in the 200-yard butterfly and the 'Nooks had a team make the finals in the 400-yard freestyle relay.Â
Wojciechowicz and Shoemaker both finished in the top-10 in the 1650-yard freestyle final as Wojciechowicz finished fourth-place, posting a time of 17:29.52 for 26 team points. This time dropped 15 seconds off of her lifetime best. Shoemaker followed in seventh-place with a time of 17:51.16, picking up 23 points for the 'Nooks and knocking 30 seconds off her lifetime best. In the 200-yard backstroke,
Camille Dayton swam in the C-Final, picking up a 20th-place finish with a time of 2:11.52, besting her prelims time of 2:12.93.
Caroline McCormick and
Naomi Burgan both made it to the C-Final in the 200-yard breaststroke. McCormick led the way, taking 19th-place with a finals time of 2:31.47, improving by two seconds from the prelims. Burgan followed in 23rd-place with a time of 2:34.38, narrowly improving from her prelims time of 2:34.68.Â
Sophia Ruppert posted the highlight of the day for the Nanooks as she took second-place and made the podium in the 200-yard butterfly in the finals. She posted a time of 2:05.97, trailing the winner's time of 2:05.04. The second-place finish grabbed the 'Nooks 28 team points and saw more than a second cut off her prelims time of 2:06.99.
Mesa Moran qualified for the C-Final and finished 21st-overall with a time of 2:18.93.Â
The Nanooks 400-free relay team was the final Alaska finals qualifier. The team of
Lainey Lioi,
Ali Pecore, Ruppert and Wojciechowicz took ninth-place with a time of 3:36.68, earning 42 points for Alaska and wrapping-up their 2023 PCSC Championships.Â
