FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Team of the Week following their streak-ending win over Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The 'Nooks used 25 points from sophomore guard, Destiny Reimers, to grab the five-point win over the Seawolves, snapping a 16-year drought against their in-state rivals for their first conference win of the season. Head coach Amy Donovan was proud of her team's efforts coming in against UAA, "I couldn't be more proud of our team. We've talked with them since day one about the work it takes to change the direction of a program and they've bought in from that moment. Last week our ability to string together consecutive stops was huge for us. We also had a lot of players step up with huge offensive performances when we were short-handed, including Destiny's huge offensive game. We're honored and excited to be the Team of the Week and can't wait to get back on the court this Thursday."

Reimers' 25-point performance was capped by a 15-point second-half that saw her score eight points in the fourth-quarter on 3-4 shooting from the floor, 2-2 from deep and a fourth that saw the Nanooks outscore UAA 17-5 to complete the comeback after trailing by seven entering the final 10 minutes. The Nanooks defense was able to shut down the Seawolves, keeping them scoreless for seven minutes between their two made field goals. 

Sam Tolliver joined Reimers in double-digit scoring with 11 points, two made threes, three rebounds and a steal. While only posting two points, Ellen Silva also filled the box score with seven rebounds, three assists and steals and two blocked shots. 

This win over UAA was the Nanooks' first since Jan. 27, 2007 when they beat UAA 85-83 OT in Fairbanks.
