Women's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Schedule

The Nanooks will start 2022-23 in Colorado before coming home for the 2022 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational.

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team has announced their upcoming 2022-23 season schedule. The Nanooks are coming off of a 3-20, 2-15 GNAC record. Alaska's season ended in the first round of the 2022 GNAC Championships to Seattle Pacific.

"We can't wait to start our season!" Said first-year head coach Amy Donovan, "We were intentional about creating a challenging non-conference schedule for our program, so our season-opening trip to Colorado to play against three RMAC schools will be an exciting challenge. The annual North Star Invitational will welcome teams from West Virginia, Montana, and Connecticut, which will help us showcase Fairbanks and the University. There will be a lot of opportunities for our community to come support this group of hard-working young women, so we can't wait!"

Following the annual Alumni Game on Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium, the Amy Donovan era will officially begin on the road at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs on Nov. 16. The 'Nooks will stay in Colorado for the Al Kaly Classic in Pueblo, Colo. for matchups with CSU Pueblo on Nov. 18 and Colorado Christian on Nov. 19. Tournament times will be announced at a later date.

After their week on the road, Alaska will come home to host the Mt. McKinley Bank North Start Invitational. Montana State Billings, Salem Univ. and Post Univ. will come to Fairbanks, making up the four-team field. The Nanooks will play Post on Nov. 25 before facing Salem on Nov. 26 to close out the Invitational. Start times for the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational are TBA. MSUB will stay in town and open up GNAC play on Monday, Nov. 28 with a 7:00 p.m. tip. After opening up conference play, Seattle Pacific will come to town on Thursday, Dec. 1 for a 5:15 p.m. start. The 'Nooks will host Multnomah for a two-game visit on Dec. 9-10 with times TBA.

They'll be on the road to end 2022 as they go to Simon Fraser in Burnaby, B.C. on Dec. 29 before playing on New Years Eve at Western Washington in Bellingham, Wash. In the new year, the Nanooks will open up at home with in-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 7 with a 3:00 p.m. tip. The Nanooks will then welcome Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington later that week for a three-game home stretch. NNU will be in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium on Jan. 12 starting at 5:15 p.m. while CWU will be in town on Jan. 14 with a 3:00 p.m. start. The lone roadtrip of January will see the 'Nooks head to Saint Martin's and Western Oregon on Jan. 19/21. They'll return home on Jan. 26 for a matchup with the Vikings of Western Washington. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip. They'll then welcome Simon Fraser on Jan. 28 for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Before their final home weekend, they'll head to Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 4 for a matchup in the Alaska Airlines Center. They'll stay on the road the following week, heading to Ellensburg, Wash. and Nampa, Idaho for games with Central Washington on Feb. 9 and Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 11.

Western Oregon and Saint Martin's will come to Fairbanks for the final weekend. WOU and the Nanooks will meet at 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 16 before the 'Nooks celebrate their seniors on Feb. 18 against Saint Martin's.
