Swim Heads to St. George for PCSC Championships at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Alaska Nanooks swim team is in St. George, Utah for the 2022 PCSC Championships. Dixie State University will be the host site of the races.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks last time in the pool came on Jan. 28-29. They fell to Loyola Marymount in both meets, 118-84 on day one and 111-93 in day two. Day one consisted 11 events. In the opening event, the 400-yard medley relay, the Nanooks took second behind a time of 4:14.10. The medley relay team was made up of Nella PashakWhitney McArthurSophia Ruppert and Emma CorbyPayton Wojciechowicz followed up with the first win on the day for the Nanooks, taking first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:40.89. Emma Corby followed up the win with a first-place finish of her own. She took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.74. 

Pashak returned to the pool and swam to a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 25.66. Shannon McCallum took third in the fifth event of the evening, the 200-yard IM, posting a finals time of 2:21.36. Sophia Ruppert grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly while Kyleigh McArthur took third in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 59.14. Lainey Lioi cracked the top-three in the 100-yard backstroke, racing to a time of 1:03.41 before Corby swam back to another first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Corby raced to a time of 5:19.44, winning by over 10 seconds. 

The Nanooks took second in the final two events on the night. In event 10, the 100-yard breaststroke, Whitney McArthur took second with a time of 1:12.67 before Alaska took second in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. A team of Emma CorbyNella PashakWhitney McArthur and Lainey Lioi swam to a second-place finish with a time of 3:47.41. 
 
Day two was made up of 11 events, just like day one. In the first event, the Nanooks took second in the 200-yard medley relay as a team of Nella PashakWhitney McArthurAdeline Berry and Emma Corby raced to a time of 1:56.10. Alaska took first and second in the next event, the 1000-yard freestyle as Payton Wojciechowicz raced to the win with a time of 11:18.75 and Caroline McCormick followed in second with a time of 11:21.68. 
 
Taryn Aho continued the Nanooks top-two finishes, grabbing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.95. Shannon McCallum took second in the next event, the 50-yard freestyle, posting a finals time of 26.02, falling by just under a half second. 
 
Emma Corby returned the Nanooks to the win column with an impressive 14 second win in the 400-yard IM. She posted a winning time of 4:39.75 while Sophia Ruppert took second with a time of 4:53.74.
 
Ruppert grabbed her own win in the next event, the 200-yard butterfly, posting a winning time of 2:14.11, taking first by more than six seconds. LMU took the next two events, winning the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke before McCallum picked up a win in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:31.08. Corby took second in the second-to-last event, the 200-yard breaststroke, racing to a time of 2:32.62 before helping the Nanooks finish second in the final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
In the relay, a team made up of Lainey LioiNella PashakWhitney McArthur and Corby took second with a time of 1:41.34, falling by under half a second. 
 
Quick Hitters
  • Nella Pashak has left her mark on the PCSC. In the 50-yard freestyle, she has raced the 12th-fastest time of 24.35. She has also raced the ninth-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle, racing a 52.89.
  • Emma Corby, in the same two events, raced the 19th-fastest time in the 50-yard, posting a time of 24.54, and in the 100, posted a time of 52.98 for the 12th-fastest time. 
  • Corby posted the third-fastest 500-yard freestyle in the conference, racing to a 5:04.69. 
  • Payton Wojciechowicz holds the ninth-fastest 1650-yard freestyle, posting an 18:00.44 this season. 
  • Sophia Ruppert has been a staple in the 200-yard butterfly for the Nanooks. She's posted a season-best 2:09.11, good for the fifth-fastest time in the PCSC. 
  • Corby holds the fifth-best time in the 100-yard IM and Ruppert follows in 11th with times of 1:00.82 and 1:02.01 respectively. In the 400-yard IM, Corby posted a 4:33.33 for fourth in the PCSC. 
  • A year ago on April 14-16, 2021, the PCSC Championships were held at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif. 
  • The Nanooks placed seventh-place, earning 512 team points in the three-day event.
