FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team tallied another dual win on Saturday morning over Puget Sound, bringing their dual record to 4-0 this season with the 128-75 victory. Talia Wentz, Kitti Marton and Dorka Dancsok led the way with two wins each.
The relay team of Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel, Giorgia Merlo and Wentz opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing the race in 1:50.67. Kitti Marton led the way in the 1000-yard freestyle, posting an 11:04.36, while Macy Ahrens (11:11.97) and Mariia Sirotinskaia (11:23.67) followed to help the 'Nooks take the top three spots in the event. McKenzie Fazio's time of 1:55.96 put her over six seconds in the lead in the 200-yard freestyle, and Wentz followed with her first win of the day, swimming to a time of 24.88 in the 50-yard freestyle. Dancsok followed with her first win of the meet, touching the wall first in the 400-yard IM with a 4:32.31.
Puget Sound took first in the 200-yard butterfly, with Madeleine Brennan leading the way in the event. Giorgia Merlo was the Nanook's top finisher in the 200 butterfly, finishing her race in 2:16.73 to put her in third place. Wentz, Dancsok and Marton all recorded their second wins of the morning over the following three events, with Wentz winning the 100-yard freestyle (54.00), Dancsok winning the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.66) and Marton winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.70).
Macy Ahrens took the top spot in the penultimate event of the day, finishing the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:29.69 to put her eight seconds in front of the second-place finisher. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 'Nooks added another win after the team of Ali Pecore, Wentz, Fazio and Dancsok led the way by posting a 1:39.64.
The 'Nooks are back at home next week, hosting Simon Fraser for two dual meets at the Patty Center Pool on Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1.
