Swim Ends La Verne Invitational with 70 Season-Best Times; Ruppert Breaks Program Record and Records B-Cut Time

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Nanooks finished 10th-place with 295 points on the weekend at the La Verne Invitational, hosted at the East Los Angeles College pool. This was the final event of 2022 for the Nanooks swim team. 
 
Day Two Results
At the end of day two, the Nanooks were in 10th-place with 164 team points. 
 
The first event of the day was the 200-yard medley relay. The Nanooks were led by a team consisting of Adeline Berry, Lainey Lioi, Sophia Ruppert and Cameron Valent. They finished the first event in 21st-place with a finals time of 1:52.85. In the second event, the 400-yard IM, Sophia Ruppert led the Nanooks, posting a prelims time of 4:39.96 before posting a finals time of 4:34.45, taking fifth-place. Camille Dayton was the second finisher for the 'Nooks in the 400-yard IM, taking 12th-place with a time of 4:43.31 in the finals, more than a second better than her prelims time.
 
The final Nanook to finish in the 400-yard IM was Naomi Burgan. Burgan finished 22nd with a finals time of 4:49.49. The third event of day two was the 100-yard butterfly and featured one Nanook; Adeline Berry. Berry finished 22nd-place with a finals time of 59.06, besting her prelims time of 59.69. The next event featuring the Nanooks was the 800-yard freestyle relay. The top-finishing team for the Nanooks took 11th-place and was made up of Camille Dayton, Shannon McCallum, Sophia Ruppert and Payton Wojciechowicz. They finished with a time of 7:55.59. The second Alaska team to finish was made up of Taryn Aho, Caroline McCormick, Mesa Moran and Emma Seward. They took 22nd with a time of 8:15.28. 
 
Day Three Results
On the final day the Nanooks posted 131 points to finish in 10th-place at the La Verne Invitational. 
 
The first event of the day featuring the Nanooks was the 1650-yard freestyle. Payton Wojciechowicz finished fifth for Alaska, taking the top-five finish behind a finals time of 17:44.66. Close behind in 10th-place was Camille Dayton, finishing in a time of 18:04.79. Tori Shoemaker, Taryn Aho and and Emma Seward were the final finishers for the 'Nooks. Shoemaker took 20th with a time of 18:28.84, Aho took 24th with a time of 18:36.91 and Seward took 29th with a time of 19:18.27. The next event for Alaska was the 200-yard backstroke. Dayton was the only Nanook, taking 15th-place with a time of 2:10.26, besting her prelims time of 2:10.69. 
 
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Caroline McCormick took 14th-place with a finishing time of 2:30.92, beating her prelims time of 2:31.71. The 200-yard butterfly proved historic for the Nanooks' Sophia Ruppert. Ruppert, a sophomore, took second-place with a time of 2:05.03, trailing the first-place finisher by only .23 and setting a new Nanook 200-yard butterfly record. Her time of 2:05.03 also gave her an NCAA B-cut time. Mesa Moran joined Ruppert in the event, taking 21st-place with a finals time of 2:21.69. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Nanooks team made up of Berry, Lioi, Ruppert and Wojciechowicz took 15th with a time of 3:37.58. Another team made up of Dayton, McArthur, McCallum and McCormick took 24th-place with a finishing time of 3:47.37. The third and final team for Alaska took 26th with a time of 3:50.35. The third team was made up of Naomi Burgan, Emma Seward, Tori Shoemaker and Cameron Valent. 
 
On the weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., the Nanooks swim team saw 70 season-best times, 22 lifetime bests, one school record and one B-cut time. 
 
The Nanooks conclude their 2022 calendar schedule and will return to the pool in January when they welcome Westmont College to Fairbanks on Jan. 20-21, 2023.
