FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swimming team was named a 2025 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Team for their academic success during the Spring 2025 semester.
The CSCAA announced the selection of 763 teams from 432 institutions as Scholar All-America Teams for the Spring 2025 semester. These teams, comprising 18,459 student-athletes, were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. To earn this prestigious honor, teams were required to achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher during the Spring 2025 semester.
"It is great to see the team being recognized for the work they put in the water and the classroom," said head coach Ksenia Gromova on the Nanooks' selection as a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team. "We are going to continue to strive to be great in everything we do. We are very proud of our swimmers and love celebrating them for their achievements."
Additionally, Alaska had five swimmers named Second Team Scholar All-Americans, with Charlotte Fletcher-Stables, Dorka Dancsok, Janci Pangburn, Jordan O'Connor and Tori Shoemaker earning the honor. To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet. 2,700 swimmers and divers were named to the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team for the 2024-25 season.
In addition to their success in the classroom last academic year, the Nanooks also posted their best finish at the PCSC Championships since the 2013-14 season, placing fifth with 909.5 points over the four-day championship last February. The Nanooks hit nine NCAA B Standard times during the season in their quest for an NCAA Championships selection, with Pangburn hitting her first of two NCAA B Cuts at the Logger Invitational with a 51.51 in the 100-yard freestyle. Her second came at the PCSC Championships, where she posted a 23.74 in the 50-yard freestyle. Shoemaker added a pair of B Cuts in the 1000 and 1650-yard freestyle, recording times of 10:24.07 and 17:17.73, both set at the PCSC Championships. Alaska got three more B Cuts in the backstroke during the conference championships, with Fletcher-Stables hitting the times in the 100 (55.28) and 200-yard backstroke (2:02.63), and O'Connor joining her with a 55.79 in the 100 backstroke. Dancsok logged the final two B Cuts on the team, posting a 1:04.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 4:25.99 in the 400-yard IM at the PCSC Championships.
