FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team is headed to Monmouth, Ore. for their rescheduled game against the Western Oregon Wolves. This game is rescheduled from it's original date of Dec. 2, 2021.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of two hard-fought games at Saint Martin's and Northwest Nazarene. In game one at Saint Martin's, the Nanooks rallied back from an early deficit.
Pearle Green posted 17 points and five steals in the loss. Alaska outscored the Saints in the second and third quarter pulling within three near the end of the third but SMU pulled away late for a 51-43 win. The Nanooks battled Northwest Nazarene to the final buzzer as well, battling to an 81-75 loss. Green showed her offensive firepower once again, scoring 26 points on 8-16 FG and 4-9 3PT. She picked up four steals, two assists and one rebound. The Nanooks held an early lead but after being outscored 23-8 in the third quarter, they had to make a comeback. A 35-point quarter made it a possibility, but NNU held off the Alaska attack.
Quick Hitters
- Pearle Green is leading the way in scoring for the Nanooks as the freshman is posting 15.4 points per game. That's good for sixth in the GNAC and top for freshman scorers in the conference.
- Destiny Reimers is the other Nanook in double-digits, scoring 12.1 per game on 97 total points.
- Paola Perez-Mendoza is the main distributor for the Nanooks with 32 assists on the season. She is one of three Nanooks with over 20 assists this year. Reimer has 24 and Green has 22. Perez-Mendoza also leads the way in steals, picking up 22 through eight games played. Green joins her with 20 as the only other Nanook with 20+.
- Ellen Silva upped her blocks with two more last week. She now leads the team with 11 and an average of 1.4 blocks per game.
- Reimers is the team-leader in rebounds and rebounds per game. She has 54 total, 41 defensive and 13 offensive for an average of 6.8 per game.
- Olivia Kraska and Emma Wass lead the way on the offensive boards. They both average 1.9 offensive rebounds per game with 15 a piece.
- The Nanooks shot their second-best percentage from the field this season against NNU, posting a 41.3% on 26-63 shooting. Their best night came on their season-opener when they shot 45%.
- Western Oregon took the last meeting between these two, on Feb. 29, 2020 in Monmouth, Ore. WOU won it 89-52 snapping the 'Nooks two-game winning-streak. Alaska has taken the previous two matchups in Fairbanks but are looking for their first win in Oregon since Feb. 4, 2016 when they defeated the Wolves 62-61.
- Alaska is looking for their first road-win of the season and are looking for their first GNAC-win of the season.
Scouting the Opponent
Western Oregon finds themselves at 5-5, 1-2 GNAC. They started their season off with a loss to #25-ranked Hawaii Pacific, 85-61. They then went on a three-game winning-streak, knocking-off Willamette University, Chico State and Sonoma State. Their streak was snapped by Texas A&M Kingsville and turned into a losing-streak with a loss to Texas A&M International two days later. After a win at Corban University, WOU entered GNAC play. They battled WWU but fell 70-52. They then lost to Simon Fraser 84-71 before defeating Saint Martin's 68-64.
WOU is led by Meadow Aragon, who through nine games and starts, is averaging 12.7 points per game. She is also leading the team in rebounds, collecting 69 total for an average of 7.7 per game. Aragon is efficient with the ball, shooting 59.7% from the floor, 33% from deep and 83% from the free-throw line. Tresai McCarver is the main distributor for the Wolves. She has 44 assists on the year for an average of 4.4 per game. McCarver is also averaging 10.5 points per game.
