FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanook swim team competed in their annual Blue/Gold Meet on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18. The Blue Team grabbed the win, knocking-off the Gold Team 175-137.Â

Day one consisted of eight events; the 200-yard medley relay, 1000-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle. In the first event, the Blue Team won the medley relay as a team of
Payton Wojciechowicz,
Whitney McArthur,
Adeline Berry and
Lainey Lioi posted a time of 1:58.41. They bested the Gold Team by almost 10 seconds.
Emma Corby claimed the win in the second event, posting an 11:15.74 in the 1000-yard freestyle. She won by over seven seconds.

In the third event of day one,
Whitney McArthur knocked-off her sister, Kyleigh, in the 50-yard breaststroke by just under four seconds with a time of 32.42. Corby returned to the top in the fourth event, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.12. In the 100-yard backstroke, the Gold Team grabbed a win from
Nella Pashak with a time of 1:05.15, narrowly winning by just over a second.
Whitney McArthur picked up another win for the Blue Team in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by six seconds with a time of 1:11.10.Â

Sophia Ruppert took home the 200-yard butterfly win with a time of 2:25.35 and in the final event of day one, Pashak won again in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.99, edging out
Lainey Lioi who posted a 26.06. After one day the Blue Team was ahead 74-71.Â

Day two was made up of nine events; 50-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM. In the ninth total event, but first of the day,
Adeline Berry took the crown for the Blue Team, winning by just under a second with a time of 28.46.
Shannon McCallum took the next event, winning the 200-yard backstroke by two seconds.Â

In the third event of day two, Lioi grabbed another win, this time in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 57.43.
Caroline McCormick grabbed another win for the Blue Team in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a 2:43.83. She won by almost seven full seconds. Corby showed up again for the Gold Team, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:29.00, winning by over 11 seconds.Â

In the three final events, the Blue Team took two of the three as Berry won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.71.
Whitney McArthur won, again, in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 30.51. In the final event, Corby struck gold for the Gold Team one last time, winning the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:19.93.Â

The Nanooks will open their regular-season at home against the University of Nebraska at Kearney in mid-October.
