Box Score 2 FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanook volleyball team ended the 2021 Nanook Classic with a 2-0 Saturday and 3-1 overall record after knocking-off Ursuline College and Colorado State Pueblo. Against Ursuline, the Nanooks won in four sets. Against CSU Pueblo, Alaska won in straight-sets moving to 7-5 on the season.
In game one, the Nanooks outhit the Arrows, 58-46 and .272 to .187 in their hitting percentage. Alongside outhitting Ursuline, the Nanooks managed only 18 errors to the Arrows 20, helping them knock-off UC. Alaska was also led by their ability to score off of the serve, averaging a 57% scoring rate off of the sideout. In set number one, Alaska jumped to a quick 5-1 lead. After UC pulled it even at 10-10, the Nanooks grabbed the lead back at 13-11 on a
Cate Whiting kill. After losing the lead for a time, Alaska stormed back and grabbed the lead back before closing out set number one, 25-19 on a
Lahra Weber kill. In set two, the Nanooks jumped out to another big lead, early, making it 9-4 out of the gates. UC pulled within one at 17-16, however, that was it for the Arrows as Alaska pulled ahead and took set number two, 25-21.
Set three went the way of the Arrows after the Nanooks fell behind early and could never find grab the lead back following a 15-14 lead. UC went on to win it 21-25.
The fourth set was all Nanooks as they pulled out to a quick 16-6 lead. They eventually pushed it to 22-7 before a small UC run. They pushed it to 24-17 before
Karli Nielson ended it giving them a 25-17 set-win and 3-1 match win.
Sophie Schilling and
AveRee Reynolds led the way in game one with 12 kills each.
Lahra Weber followed behind with 11 kills.
Cate Whiting posted a game-high 43 assists on 96 total attempts. She added 11 digs and five kills.
In game two, the Nanooks found more offensive-success, leading to a 3-0 sweep of CSU Pueblo. Head coach
Brian Scott called it one of the Nanooks most complete-offensive games that he's seen as they hit .304 in the three sets and holding CSU Pueblo to a .083 hit percentage.
Karli Nielson led the way with 12 kills and a .409 swing percentage while
AveRee Reynolds followed with 10 kills and a .292 hit percentage of her own.
Cate Whiting posted her second three-set 35 assist game, spreading the love through the entire Nanook roster. In set one, the Nanooks fell behind early, but after a small run, found their rhythm, pulling ahead at 16-13 and eventually 23-21 before taking the set 25-22.
Set two was all Alaska. After falling behind early, the Nanooks quickly went on a 7-0 run, making it 16-8 in the blink of an eye. CSU made a small run but the 'Nooks responded and took the second set 25-16.
The third and final set was all Nanooks. Pueblo was never in it as Alaska ran away with it 25-12, earning the sweep and ending the Nanook Classic 2021 with a 3-1 record.

AveRee Reynolds earned All-Tournament nods following their performances on the weekend.
The Nanooks open up GNAC-conference play next week on Thursday, Sept. 16 at Western Oregon and will head to Saint Martin's on Saturday, Sept. 18 following their trip to Monmouth, Ore.
