FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Thursday, March 11, the Alaska Nanooks swim team held their annual Blue/Gold Meet at the Patty Center Pool. Team Gold grabbed the win over Blue, 139-124.
The day consisted of 17 meets, including the first of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Whitney McArthur,
Caroline McCormick,
Kyleigh McArthur and
Lainey Lioi picked up the win for Team Blue with a 1:48.29 time. They knocked off a Gold Team made up of;
Mesa Moran,
Erika Kakazu,
Shannon McCallum and
Tori Shoemaker. The second event was a one-racer show as
Gabrielle Davy was the lone-Nanook to race in the 100-yard butterfly, racing a 1:05.35 in the seeding time and a 1:06.60 in the finals for the Gold Team.
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Erika Kakazu grabbed the win for the Gold Team, finishing with a seeding time of 1:06.97 and a finals time of 1:06.13. McCallum finished in second with a finals time of 1:08.43.
Taryn Aho, the lone Blue Team member, finished in third with a finals time of 1:13.10 and Cassie Erdman rounded-out the standings with a 1:18.65 in the fourth spot. Team Blue grabbed their first win in event four, the 100-yard breaststroke, with
Whitney McArthur putting up a seed time of 1:14.08 and a finals time of 1:13.25.
Tori Shoemaker took second for Gold, posting a finals time of 1:18.03.
The fifth event was the 100-yard freestyle and
Lainey Lioi picked-up another Blue Team victory with a seeding time of 57:92 and a finals time of 57.91. She knocked-off Kakazu by just over two seconds (59.99). In the 50-yard butterfly, Oda Bygnes won by just under four seconds, posting a finals score of 26.47 for Team Blue. Kakazu, once again, won with a 31.17 and finals time of 31.33 in the 50-yard backstroke. W. McArthur collected a win in the 50-yard breaststroke with a seeding time of 32.55 and 32.84 time in the finals before picking up another win in the 50-yard freestyle with a seeding time of 25.95 and 26.08 finals time.
Caroline McCormick grabbed a three second win in the 200-yard IM with a finals time of 2:27.21. Lioi, W. McArthur, Bygdnes and K. McArthur picked-up a win in the 200-yard medley relay for the Blue Team with a time of 1:56.32. Shoemaker got Gold back on the board with a win in the 500-yard freestyle and a time of 5:29.08, winning by over seven seconds.
Gabrielle Davy picked up four second win in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 2:21.67 in the finals. Kakazu and Shoemaker grabbed the next two events in the 200-yard backstroke and breaststroke, respectively. Lioi picked up the 16
th event, the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:06.57 finals time and
Mesa Moran won the 400-yard IM, the final event, with a finals time of 5:07.31, besting her seeding time of 5:19.98.
Alaska will open up their official season on March 26-27 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
