FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks swim team was named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America's Scholar All-American team. Alongside over 450 other institutions, the Nanooks pressed through the turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic and still found success in the classroom.
Alaska and their 16 participants boasted a 3.55 GPA in the fall semester of 2020 under new head coach Cam Kainer. Kainer praised his athletes for their performance not only in the pool, but in the classroom, "We are proud of our team and how they did this fall, considering all of the challenges they have faced this past semester. I think they strive for academic excellence every day, and it certainly showed in their commitment to the classroom. They have truly shown what it means to be a student first."
The Alaska swim team is currently working on forming a revised 2020-21 schedule in the spring of 2021. A schedule will be released at a later date.
