OMAHA, Neb. – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team heads to Omaha, Neb. for the first time since the 2010 season. Old CCHA foes will do battle on Friday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 17.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of a series-split with #20/RV-ranked Clarkson. The Golden Knights were in Fairbanks on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9 to reopen the Carlson Center for the first Nanooks game in 580 days. On day one, the Nanooks attempted comeback fell short. Clarkson posted two second-period goals to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. An
Anton Rubtsov goal early in the third was not enough as the 'Nooks fell 1-2.
In game two,
Brady Risk scored a shorthanded goal before
Filip Fornaa Svensson picked up the GWG, making it 2-0 in the third period. Clarkson got one back with 1:14 left in the game, but it was enough of a lead for Alaska to topple their top-20 opponent.
First(s) of Many
Seven Nanooks scored over the weekend while five scored their first career NCAA points.
Brady Risk grabbed his first points on a goal and an assist, becoming the early points-leader for Alaska with two.
Anton Rubtsov scored the first goal of the 2021-22 season and his first-career point on night one.
Connor Mylymok,
Payton Matsui and
Robert Blueger added assists for their first career-points in the blue and gold.
Grigals' Goal
Gustavs Grigals finds himself in the top-20 in multiple NCAA DI hockey statistical areas. In GAA, he finds himself #17 at 1.52. He also checks in at T-10
th in NCAA DI hockey with a 94.7% save percentage.
Risky Business
Brady Risk became the first Nanook of the season to collect a multi-point game, scoring a goal and grabbing an assist in Saturday's win over Clarkson. Risk also is one of 16 players in the NCAA with a shorthanded goal.
"Winning"
Filip Fornaa Svensson scored his first career game-winning goal on Saturday against Clarkson. His goal in the third period of the Nanooks 2-1 proved to be the winner, giving them a 2-0 lead before Clarkson scored late, halving the lead.
Old Foes - Omaha
The Nanooks are taking on Omaha for the first time since 2016 when they fell to the Mavericks in OT, 3-4 and for the first time in Omaha since the 2009-10 season. Omaha is coming off of a sweep of Maine at the Baxter Arena. They opened up the season at home against Lake Superior State, losing their opener, 3-4 OT. They followed up their loss with a 3-0 win. A week later, Maine came to town as the Mavs picked up a 4-1 and 5-3 sweep.
The Mavericks and Nanooks used to play every year while in the CCHA. Omaha enters their 25
th season. They began their time as an Independent NCAA DI program before joining the CCHA in 1999-2000 and stayed for 11 seasons before joining the WCHA and now the NCHC.
