FULL RESULTS
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Alaska Nanooks swim team wrapped up day two of the PCSC Championships at East Los Angeles College with two top-five finishes and more personal best times.
In the first event of the day, Alaska swimmer,
Tori Shoemaker made an appearance in the 500-yard freestyle, grabbing a 27th place finish, putting up a time of 5:23.02. Shoemaker was the only 'Nook to swim in the long distance freestyle.
In the 200-yard individual medley, the Nanooks had four competitors.
Oda Bygdnes,
Caroline McCormick,
Jessica Williamson and
Alexis Mattson all swam, with Bygdnes and McCormick advancing to the finals. Mattson finished 46th place and Williamson placed 31st, just missing out on the finals. McCormick found herself just inside the cutoff, placing 21st overall with a time of 2:13.12. Bygdnes made the finals with ease, grabbing a ninth place finish with a 2:07.69 time.
After the individual medley, the 'Nooks turned to the 50-yard freestyle.
Kaia Norbye,
Whitney McArthur,
Erika Kakazu and
Kyleigh McArthur represented the Nanooks in the freestyle race with Norbye finishing near the top, placing fourth place with a 23.88.
Whitney McArthur followed, finishing 13th overall with a time of 24.41. Kakazu and McArthur finished up the race for Alaska, placing 24th and 35th with only 0.37 seconds separating them.
The final event of the day for Alaska was the 200-yard freestyle relay and after a delay to re-score the event, the Nanooks walked away with a fifth place finish and 18th place finish. A team made up of Norbye, Kakazu, McArthur and Bygdnes put up a seeding time of 1:35.73 before putting finishing the finals with a time of 1:37.74. The second Alaska team finished with a time of 1:40.73 in the seeding portion of the race and in the finals put up a time of 1:44.18. McCormick put up a lifetime best 50-yard freestyle team when leading off the relay for the second Nanooks squad.

Becca Weiland felt great about the efforts put forth by the Nanooks, "Tonight was another good night for the lady Nanooks.
Caroline McCormick earned another lifetime best swim in the 50-yard freestyle and several other 'Nooks were close to their lifetime best times. Tomorrow should be another exciting day for the lady Nanooks!"
Tomorrow, Feb. 14, the Nanooks return for day three of the PCSC Championships with six events. The 'Nooks will be competing in the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.
