FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks swim team was named to the CSCAA All-American Scholar team after the Nanooks put together a cumulative team GPA of 3.19. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the list of teams earlier this week saying that "teams were selected on the basis of their Fall 2019 grade point averages and represent 17,685 student-athletes".
The Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks made the list thanks to their dedication to both the classroom and the water, as nine swimmer grabbed GPA's higher than 3.0. First on the list is
Rachel Beal who ended the fall semester with a 3.13 GPA.
Oda Bygdnes joined Beal with a 3.11 GPA in fall of 2019.
The third and fourth Nanooks to hold a 3.0 or better were
Camille Dayton and
Sydney Gulon as Dayton put together a 3.04 GPA and Gulon made the Dean's List with a 3.8 GPA.
Alexis Mattson and
Kyleigh McArthur also joined Gulon on the Dean's List as they both earned a 3.73 GPA.
Kaia Norbye and
Makayla Suominen are the last two Nanooks to earn a 3.0+ and Dean's List nomination. Norbye earned a 3.46 while Suominen earned a 3.6 making the Dean's List.
The final Nanooks swimmer to have a great semester in the classroom is
Caroline McCormick. She earned the lone 4.0 for the Nanooks and was named to the Chancellor's List.
Head coach
Becca Weiland was beyond happy with her team's performances in both the pool and the classroom, "I am pleased to see that our team made the 2019 Fall CSCAA All-American selection. Our young women last semester put a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work into their studies, and the results clearly show on this list. We are incredibly proud to see our student-athletes succeeding not only in the pool, but also in the classroom."
The Nanooks have been out of the pool for two weeks, but will return to the pool for the PCSC Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. on Feb. 12 through Feb. 15.
