FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanook swim team unofficially opens their 2019-20 season with their Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon in the Patty Center Pool. The meet is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. AKT on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Nanooks will split into two teams, blue and gold and the results are based off of positioning. Finish places will equal the number of points awarded for each team. The team with the lowest overall point total is the team winner of the Blue vs. Gold meet.
New head coach, Rebecca Weiland, had a lot to say about her team about the upcoming meet, "The Lady Nanooks this weekend are more than ready to kick off the season with the Blue & Gold Pentathlon on Saturday. Nanook Swimming this year is filled with numerous multi-stroke athletes who are ready to show off their versatile skills. We have a brand new all-female coaching staff this year who is eager to see what our team can do this year. It's going to be a great weekend for Nanook Swimming."
Weiland will be taking over for long-time Nanook head coach, Scott Lemley who retired following last season's campaign. Lemley was in Fairbanks for quite some time, both as a student-athlete from 1970-73 in the NAIA and as a coach in the mid-80's and lastly from 2005-18.
