Sparling Releases 2019-20 @NanooksMBB Schedule

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team will play on their home court 10 times throughout the 2019-20 campaign, as second-year head coach Greg Sparling announced Alaska's schedule for the upcoming season on Wednesday.

Alaska will kick-off the season in Anchorage at the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge, taking on PacWest foes Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10, respectively. Both games will take place at 2:15 p.m. AKT at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Nanooks will head to Seaside, California the following week, taking part in the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational Nov. 15-16. Alaska will take on the home team on Friday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. AKT before facing the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. AKT. Both games will take place at the Kelp Bed at the Otter Sports Center.

Nonconference play continues for the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team in Utah at the Westminster College Invite, as the Nooks take on the Westminster Griffins on Friday, Nov. 22 before facing the Dixie State Trailblazers on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Westminster Invite will take place at the Behnken Field House in Salt Lake City, with Friday's matchup set for 5:30 p.m. AKT and Saturday slated for 3:30 p.m. AKT.

Alaska will then travel back to Anchorage for their final nonconference games of the season, taking part in the Seawolf Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by the UAA. The Classic will take place Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30, with the Nooks taking on the Northern Michigan Wildcats and the Michigan Tech Huskies, respectively. Both Friday and Saturday's games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center with tip-off set for 5:15 p.m. AKT.

The Nooks will open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at home, hosting the Western Oregon Wolves and the Concordia Cavaliers on Thursday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Alaska Airlines Court, respectively.

Following the holiday break and heading in the New Year, Alaska will be on the road for six of nine games throughout the month of January but will host Simon Fraser (Jan. 9), Western Washington (Jan. 11) and Seattle Pacific (Jan. 30) on home turf. All three games in the first month of 2020 will be double-headers with the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team.

Unlike January, Alaska will be home for five of nine games in February, including a four-game home stint. The Nooks will host Central Washington (Feb. 13) and Northwest Nazarene (Feb. 15) before taking on in-state rival Alaska Anchorage (Feb. 18) and Montana State Billings (Feb. 20) the following week.

The Nanooks will finish the 2019-20 regular season on the road, taking on Concordia in Portland on Thursday, Feb. 27 before heading to Monmouth to face Western Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 29.

The 2019-20 GNAC Men's Basketball Championships will take place Mar. 5-7 at the Brougham Pavilion in Seattle, Washington, hosted by Seattle Pacific. To earn a spot at the GNAC Championships, the Nooks will have to conclude the regular season sitting within the top-six spots in the league standings.

All home games and conference road contests during the 2019-20 season will feature live video with play-by-play commentary and live statistics, available through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal. Information on the season packages, as well as single-game ticket prices, will be made available to the public soon.

The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team finished the 2018-19 season with a 5-22 overall mark, going 2-18 in GNAC play.
