The Alaska Nanooks swim team opened up their dual-meet against Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) foe Loyola Marymount with a win on Friday night at the Patty Center Pool. Of the 11 events on Friday, Alaska placed first in seven.

"The Nanook swimmers did exceedingly well tonight in the pool against Division I Loyola Marymount," associate head swim coach Becca Weiland said on Friday. "After coming back from a two-week training trip and getting back into the swing of school, our girls shined in the pool tonight. I'm eager to see what our team can accomplish tomorrow."

The Nooks opened Friday's meet with a one-two sweep in the 400-yard medley relay, as sophomore Erika Kakazu, redshirt-freshman Kaia Norbye, sophomore Oda Bygdnes and freshman Wanlaya Jarupakorn placed first with the only sub-4-minute time of 3:59.88.

Sophomore Rachel Beal, junior Claire McElroy, freshman Camille Dayton and freshman Jessica Williamson placed second overall with a time of 4:20.21.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Norbye placed first overall with a time of 24.73, while McArthur followed closely behind with a time of 25.29.

Bygdnes placed first in back-to-back events on Friday, placing first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.85 before placing first once again in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.80. Bygdnes' time in the 100-butterfly is a best dual-meet time.

Kakazu ranked first among her competition in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.06 before placing, edging out LMU's Abby Chopp by 00.28.

In the 500-yard freestyle race, senior Cassidy Heaton crushed the competition with a time of 5:17.59.

In the final individual event of the day, the 100-yard breaststroke, Norbye placed first with a time of 1:07.19.

The Alaska Nanooks swim team will face the Loyola Marymount Lions in their final home meet of the season tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 26) beginning at 12pm AKST at the Patty Center Pool.
