FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team was edged 80-72 by Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Montana State University Billings on Saturday at Alaska Airlines Court. The loss drops Alaska's record to 3-9 overall and 0-6 in GNAC play, while the Yellowjackets improve to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in league contests.
Following Saturday's game, the Nanooks are in 11th place in the GNAC, while MSUB is in sixth place in the conference.
Inside the box score
- The Nanooks shot 40 percent from the field (26-for-65), 31.6 percent on 3-point shots (6-for-19) and 77.8 percent from the foul line (14-for-18) for the game.
- Alaska outscored the Yellowjackets 30-16 in the paint and 19-10 off turnovers.
- The game featured eight ties and seven lead changes, with MSU Billings holding a narrow 36-35 lead at the half.
Alaska leaders
- Senior forward Marian Wamsley had a team-high 23 points for the Nanooks, hitting 8-of-17 field goals and going 7-for-9 from the foul line. Junior guard Kylie Wallace added 22 points, four rebounds and five steals.
- Junior guard Sabrina Ungaro led Alaska with six assists and tied senior guard Angela Murnion with a team-high 38 minutes
- Senior guard Emily Evans topped the Nanooks with five rebounds and added 10 points, going 2-for-6 from behind the arc.
Next time out
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will go on the road next week for a pair of GNAC contests. The Nanooks will travel to Portland, Oregon, for a Jan. 17 game against Concordia University, followed by a Jan. 19 game against Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon.
