PORTLAND, Ore. – On Tuesday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its 2017-18 All-Conference Men's Basketball team with Alaska Nanooks junior guard
Alex Baham and sophomore forward
Michael Kluting being named Honorable Mentions.
Baham and Kluting become the 12th and 13th players under seventh-year head coach
Mick Durham to garner an all-conference selection. It is both Baham and Kluting's first conference honor of their careers.
In his first year with the Nanooks, Baham appeared and started in each of Alaska's 26 games this season. Baham ranked third in the GNAC in three-point field goal percentage with a .458 (66-for-144) and third in three-point field goals made with an average of 2.5 per game (66 total).
Amongst his teammates, Baham led the Nanooks in minutes averaging 29.4 per game and three-point field goals made and tied the team lead in blocks with 10. Baham also ranked second on the team in points (299 total), averaging 11.5 per game.
The Wasilla, Alaska native posted three games with 20-or-more points this season, with his best night coming on Dec. 2 in a 88-80 victory over Montana State Billings at home, as Baham registered 23 points on the night.
Kluting appeared in each of Alaska's 26 games this season, starting in 23 contests, as a second-year Nanook. Within the GNAC, Kluting ranked third in rebounding (211 total) with an average of 8.1 per game. Kluting also ranked fourth in the conference in defensive boards (152 total) with a 5.8 per game average and seventh in offensive rebounds (59 total) with 2.3 per game average.
On the Nanooks, Kluting led his teammates in scoring (11.7 points per game), field goals made (114 total), points (303 total), offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and total rebounds.
The Palmer, Alaska native registered a team-high 10 double-doubles throughout the season, with his highest-scoring night coming on Dec. 17 against Concordia on the road, as Kluting tallied a season-high 23 points and 10 rebounds in the 88-66 victory.
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team concluded the 2017-18 season last Thursday (Feb. 22) with a 69-59 victory over Montana State Billings on the road.
