FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Thursday, Alaska Nanooks women's basketball head coach
Kerri Nakamoto announced the addition of Alanna Conwell, who signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Nanooks in the fall of 2019. Conwell becomes the first signee to join the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team throughout the early signing period and the first signee under Nakamoto since taking over the program in July.
A 5-foot-11 forward, Conwell will come to the Nanooks after playing the forward position for the Kotzebue High School Huskies. Last season, the Kotzebue Huskies women's basketball team earned a bid to the 3A Alaska State Activities Association Tournament, but fell in back-to-back games to Anchorage Christian 46-76 and Nikiski 43-48.
Conwell was the bright spot for the Huskies the past two seasons, being named an All-ASAA 3A Second Team selection following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. In her sophomore year, Conwell was named to the All-ASAA 3A Third Team.
In the classroom, Conwell is a member of the National Honor Society at Koztebue High School and earned the Superintendent Award for having a 4.5 grade point average.
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will return to competition following the New Year, hosting the Western Washington Vikings on Thursday, Jan. 3 before taking on the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off on Thursday versus WWU is set for 5:15pm AKST, while Saturday's contest against SFU is slated for 1pm AKST. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court.
