RENO, Nevada –
The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team lost their second-straight match on Sunday, falling 4643-4641 to the University of Nevada Wolfpack. The Nanooks outshot their opponent 2302-2292 in smallbore but fell short in air rifle, 2339-2350.

Sunday's loss drops Alaska's overall record to 6-2.

"I am proud of the team and how hard they worked this weekend," head coach Layne Lewis said on Sunday. "I know this wasn't the ideal road trip shooting four days in a row at three different locations in two different states, but they showed true heart and discipline this week. If they can continue at this level of work, I'm sure we will be seeing greater success at our next match."

Nevada's Mitchell Van Patten was the top overall individual shooter throughout the two-day meet, placing first in air rifle with a 596 before ranking third in smallbore with a 581 to total an aggregate score of 1174.

Van Patten's 1174 was a full eight points ahead of the second overall individual shooter, Alaska's JT Schnering, who posted an aggregate score of 1166. Schnering ranked fifth in smallbore with a 574 before shooting a 592 in air rifle to rank second.

Alaska freshman Kellan McAferty ranked third overall individually with an 1165, tying Nevada's Alex Patajo. McAferty ranked second in smallbore with a 581 and fifth in air rifle with a 584.

Junior Amy Gentry was the only other Nanook who ranked in the top-five individually with a 1159, shooting a 577 in smallbore and a 582 in air rifle.

The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team will take a break until after the holiday break, taking on The Citadel on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Charleston, South Carolina.
