Nanooks Place Third on Day One at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – The Alaska Nanooks rifle team competed at the Air Force Academy on Saturday, finishing third among five teams with an aggregate score of 4710.

Alaska joined Air Force, Georgia Southern, Schreiner University and TCU in the competition, which took place Friday and Saturday. Julianna Hays and Sadie Palfrey fired on Friday before the rest of the Nanooks took the line Saturday, helping Alaska post a 4710-310x. The score matched Georgia Southern's 4710, but the Eagles claimed second place with a higher x-count of 322.

In smallbore, the Nanooks fired a 2329. That score was third in the discipline as TCU shot a 2365, GSU shot a 2332, Air Force posted a 2311 and Schreiner Univ. posted a 2132. Lucie Kissenberger led the way for the Nanooks with a 588-37x, placing fourth in the smallbore standings. Teagan Perkowski placed seventh in smallbore, the only other Nanooks shooter in the top 10. He fired a 585-29x. Noah Meierotto fired a 579-27x, placing 15th. Julianna Hays took 18th with a 578-29x and Marshall Schmidt cracked the top 20 with a 577-28x. Tobias Bernhoft-Osa (22nd, 575-25x), Matthew Stout (23rd, 573-22x), and Sadie Palfrey (24th, 573-17x) rounded out the smallbore scores for Alaska. 

Alaska took second in the air rifle discipline, posting a 2381. TCU led the way with a 2388 while GSU shot a 2378, Air Force shot a 2372, and Schreiner shot a 2241. The Nanooks had a pair of athletes fire 596 and higher as Tobias Bernhoft-Osa led the way with a 597-52x for a fifth-place finish. Teagan Perkwoski followed in eighth with a 596-46x. Marshall Schmidt took 13th with a 594-47x while Lucie Kissenberger and Julianna Hays followed in 14th and 15th with 594's of their own. Noah Meirotto placed 18th in the air rifle standings with a 592-45x. Sadie Palfrey took 21st (591-44x) and Matthew Stout took 26th (588-41x) to round out the air rifle performances. 

Lucie Kissenberger shot the high-score for the Nanooks, placing fourth in the individual standings. She posted an aggregate of 1182-82x while her teammate Teagan Perkowski followed in seventh-place with an aggregate of 1181-75x. Those two were the only Nanooks in the top 10 individual scores. 

These same teams meet again tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. AKST at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
