FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will play in their final home game of the on Saturday, (Dec. 10), when in-state rival Alaska Anchorage comes to town for a lone Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup at the Alaska Airlines Court at 2pm AKST.
The Nooks will look to improve their record, as they currently sit with an overall mark of 4-5 and a GNAC record of 0-2, while their weekend opponent, UAA, sits at 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Nooks are currently on a three-game losing streak after enduring one of the toughest nonconference schedules in NCAA Division II, as Alaska's opponents have a combined record of 49-26 already this season.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks opened GNAC play at home last weekend against two regionally-ranked teams, falling to Western Washington 100-54 on Thursday, Dec. 1 before overcoming a 25-point deficit in the third quarter to ultimately be edged out by Simon Fraser 79-77 on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Senior forward Kaillee Skjold led the Nooks against the WWU Vikings with 13 points, while fellow-senior forward Jordan Wilson posted 23 points against SFU on Saturday to lead all players.

Senior forward Jordan Wilson had a team-best 23 points and seven rebounds against Simon Fraser last Saturday, Dec. 3 in a 79-77 loss to the Clan. Wilson is now averaging 22.0 points per game, ranking her second in the conference and seventh in all of NCAA Division II. Furthermore, Wilson ranks in the top-10 in the conference in field goal percentage (4th), free throw percentage (2nd) and offensive rebounds (tied-3rd).
Mays-king it Rain
Senior guard Jaylee Mays shot 5-of-9 from beyond the arc against Simon Fraser last Saturday, marking her third time she has made five, three-point buckets in a single game, becoming the only player in the conference to do so. Mays is now 27-of-57 from three-point territory on the season, ranking her first in the GNAC in three-pointers made. Additionally, Mays ranks 16th in the GNAC in field goal percentage and sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage.
Double-Digits for Skjold
Last weekend's pair of GNAC contests saw senior forward Kaillee Skjold score double-digits in both Thursday and Saturday's game. On the season, Skjold is now averaging 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, ranking her ninth in the GNAC in points per game and second in rebounds per game. Skjold leads the entire conference in defensive rebounds. Furthermore, Skjold averages 4.0 assists per game, making her the only player in the GNAC to rank in the conference top-10 for points, rebounds and assists.
Team Misc.
- Autumn Childers is a perfect 16-of-16 from behind the free throw line , which is the most free throws made without a miss so far this season within the conference
- Alaska boasts the best free throw percentage in the conference, making 154-of-179, ranking them third-best in NCAA DII in free throw percentage
- Against Colorado State University at Pueblo, the Nooks made all 15 free throws as a team, which is the most free throws made without a miss in the conference this year
- Wilson has shot 54-of-58 from the free throw line this season, which ranks 16th nationally
- Victoria Milton has recorded 47 assists already this season, which ranks third in the conference
Scouting the Opponent – Alaska Anchorage
The Seawolves opened conference play by defeating Simon Fraser 75-59 and Western Washington 80-69 last week to improve to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in conference play. Kaitlyn Hurley scored a team-high 22 points against Simon Fraser, while Autumn Williams posted 21 points and six rebounds against WWU to be named the GNAC Player of the week.
As a team, the Seawolves lead the NCAA Division II in steals with 18.6 per game and rank second nationally in assists (23.4), turnover margin (13.43) and turnovers forced (29.57). UAA has the fourth-best defense in NCAA DII, allowing just 49.7 points per game. The Seawolves are ranked No. 1 in the DIISIDA West Region Poll and ranked No. 7 by DIISIDA nationally.
