FAIRBANKS - Rookie center
Rylen Roersma had a huge month of January for the Nanooks as he posted 13 points on six goals and seven assists. This was the most points among Independent skaters.
"Rylen's production is a direct result of his dedication to the process," said head coach
Erik Largen. "His line mates have done a great job of complementing his game. He's been reliable in all three zones and continues to get better each day. This honor is well deserved." Not only did Roersma lead the Nanooks and all Independent skaters with 13 points in the month of January, but he was the only Nanooks skater to post 10+ points in the 10-game span. He helped the Nanooks go 5-4-1 in January and 4-1-1 in their last six games.Â
Roersma's month of dominance began at nationally-ranked Providence to open the new year. He had four points in the two games at Providence, scoring one goal in game one before posting three points in game two on a goal and two helpers. Two weeks later, he had a two-point game in the Nanooks' Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup win over Alaska Anchorage. One week later, in a 5-2 win over Lindenwood, the rookie scored two goals and added two assists for this first-career four-point game. Finally, last weekend against LIU, he had a two-point performance in the Nanooks' first 5-1 win over LIU before adding his final assist of the month in the Nanooks' second 5-1 victory over LIU.Â
This is the fourth monthly Independent honor the Nanooks have received this year and the first of Roersma's career.
Lassi Lehti has earned two Goalie of the Month honors this year and
Michael Citara was named the November 2025 Independent Player of the Month.Â
Alaska continues the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup series tonight in Anchorage. Puck drops at 7 p.m. AKST.Â
