LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic skiing teams continued their races in Lake Placid today, competing in the 20k freestyle mass start at Mt. Van Hoevenberg as a part of the U.S. Cross Country National Championships, while also serving as an RMISA Nordic Qualifier. No team scores were recorded today, but the race counted for NCAA qualification.
Rosie Fordham secured another podium after her third-place finish in the 10k classic on Sunday, placing second in the freestyle today by posting a 56:10.2. She was in first after the opening 2.5k before dropping down to second at the 5k checkpoint, where she would stay for the rest of the race. Õnnela Rodendau was the other Nanook to race in the women's 20k collegiate race, placing 16th with a 1:04:13.1.
On the men's side, Ben Dohlby worked his way up from sixth after the opening 5k to eventually take fourth place, registering a 49:36.3 to secure the Nanooks' highest finish in the men's race. Philipp Moosmayer followed in seventh after crossing the line in 50:11.5, and Gabriele Rigaudo finished in 17th with a 53:46.9.
Blake Hanley and Matyas Pavek were the final two Nanook finishers, skiing to times of 55:00.9 and 55:49.6 to take 20th and 22nd, respectively.
Colorado's Tilde Baangman won the women's race, and Utah's Mons Melbye won the men's race.
The Nanooks conclude the RMISA Invitational tomorrow with the classic sprints. The men's sprint qualifiers will kick off at 6 a.m. AKST, and the women's will begin at 7 a.m. AKST.
