Women’s Hoops Squares off Against Red Leafs, Vikings on the Road

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team remains away from home this week for two road contests at Simon Fraser and Western Washington.

The Nanooks dropped their only game last week, falling to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday by a final score of 93-50. Emily Freeman and Tristian Martin tied for the team lead with 12 points in the game, with Freeman knocking down four of her six shot attempts from deep and Martin going 2-3 from three. Destiny Reimers was the other Nanook to finish in double-figure scoring, posting 10 points. She collected two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Taylor Pilot led the team with five assists and put up eight points. The Nanooks shot 29.6% from the floor and 40% from three while knocking down 10 of their 11 free throws. They trailed in points off turnovers (32-10), second-chance points (17-11), bench points (20-16) and points in the paint (62-14).

The Simon Fraser Red Leafs have dropped their previous three games, falling to Saint Martin's (86-74), Northwest Nazarene (90-82) and Central Washington (79-72). They are led by the GNAC's leading scorer, Sophia Wisotzki, who is averaging 23.7 points per game this season, putting her third in Division II. She leads the country in free throws made (155) and ranks fifth in the conference in three-pointers per game (2.23).
