FAIRBANKS – Interim head coach Ben Buck and the Nanooks Nordic skiing team have announced the hiring of Max Beiergrohslein as their new assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to announce the signing of Max Beiergrohslein as assistant coach for the 2025-26 season!" said Buck. "Max's experience with Nanook Skiing as a former student-athlete makes him a great asset to the team. His positive energy and strong work ethic complement his knowledge of the sport and of physiology, and I can't wait to see him continue his development here at UAF!"
Beiergrohslein was a member of the Nanooks Nordic skiing team from 2020 to 2024 and team captain from 2023 to 2024. He competed in six events during his sophomore and junior seasons. He made his collegiate debut at the Utah Invitational in 2022, placing 31st in the freestyle sprints, and raced in the classic sprints at the RMISA Qualifiers, taking 25th place. During his junior season, he skied in four events, the 10k freestyle and classic sprints at the RMISA Nordic Qualifiers, and the freestyle sprints and 10k classic at the Alaska Anchorage Invitational. He also competed for Alaska Nordic Racing, Alaska Winter Stars and APU over his nine-year career, skiing in regional and national junior championships, and served as a volunteer ski instructor for Junior Nordic Ski Programs.
Beiergrohslein shared his excitement about returning to the Nanooks. "I am super excited to come back to Fairbanks and give it my all for a team that has given me so much!"
In addition to his time on the ski trails, he worked as a medical assistant at Orthopedic Physicians Alaska from 2024 to 2025 and as a pharmacy technician at Alaska Native Medical Center in the summer of 2022. He also served as an adjunct professor of an Anatomy and Physiology Lab course at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2024-25.
Hailing from Eagle River, Alaska, Beiergrohslein graduated from UAF in 2024 with a degree in Biological Sciences.
