BOSTON, Mass. - The Nanooks hockey team picked up a 2-1 win over the Stonehill Skyhawks on Friday, Nov. 6 to improve to 2-7-0 on the year.
How it Happened
The two sides skated to a 0-0 tie through the opening 40 minutes. In the first, Alaska posted seven shots while Stonehill had eight. In the second, the Nanooks had just five while keeping the Skyhawks to four shots on goal. Despite being outshot by five in the third, it was the Nanooks who came out on top, winning the third 2-1.
Their first goal came just 34 seconds into the final stanza and was the first-career goal by
Taisetsu Ushio. Ushio picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and beat Stonehill netminder Mason Vaccari gloveside for a short-handed goal. 3:02 later, while on the power play, the Nanooks made it 2-0.
Nathan Rickey scored his first goal of the season with a one-timer from the point off of a
Linden Burrett pass.
Rylen Roersma picked up the secondary, giving him his second assist of the night after he earned the lone-assist on Ushio's goal.
Down the stretch, the Nanooks were whistled for a penalty, and the man-advantage led to Stonehill pulling within one on a Liam Fitzpatrick goal with just 1:36 remaining. Alaska withstood the final push, however, and earned the 2-1 victory on the road.
