BOISE, Idaho – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team competed in the second day of the Northwest Collegiate Invite on Saturday, ending the day in fifth place with 432 points.
The Nanooks finished eighth and 13th in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Giorgia Merlo and Janci Pangburn finishing highest with a 1:46.07. Merlo was the highest finisher for the 'Nooks in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 58.70 to place 21st in the C Final. Alaska had two swimmers in the E Final of the event, as MacKenzie O'Keefe (1:03.73) and Kaidence Sampsel (1:08.28) finished 35th and 39th.
In the A Final of the 400-yard IM, Dancsok continued her stellar weekend, placing third in the event with a 4:26.99, good for another NCAA B Cut. Cosima Schmiedel and Charisma Watkins swam in the C Final of the event, placing 17th and 22nd, respectively, with times of 4:42.61 and 4:49.77.
Fazio continued the good results for the Nanooks in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a fourth-place finish after touching the wall in 1:53.68. Ali Pecore also swam in the A Final and earned a sixth-place result with a 1:55.54. Kitti Marton (15th, 2:00.08), Janci Pangburn (22nd, 2:00.66) and Mariia Sirotinskaia (26th, 2:00.16) also competed in the event, swimming in the B, C and D Finals, respectively.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Dorka Dancsok finished 10th with a 1:05.24 after earning a spot in the B Final. The Nanokos had two more swimmers racing in the D Final of the 100 breaststroke, with Macy Ahrens and Sariah Rodgers finishing 25th and 26th, respectively, in 1:08.67 and 1:11.84.
In the final individual event of the day, Fazio posted a 57.51 to lead the Nanooks in the 100-yard backstroke, with that time good for seventh place in the A Final. Watkins (1:00.84), Sirotinskaia (1:03.30) and O'Keefe (1:06.05) would take 27th, 31st and 32nd after their race in the D Final.
Alaska placed sixth and 10th in the 800-yard freestyle relay, with Fazio, Marton, Merlo and Pecore posting a 7:45.99 to lead the Nanooks.
The Nanooks conclude the meet tomorrow with prelims beginning at 8 a.m. AKST and finals starting at 2 p.m. AKST.
