Nanooks Grab Big Win Over Michigan Tech on Day Two

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team picked up their first home win on Saturday, Oct. 18 with a 5-1 win over Michigan Tech. With the win, the Nanooks improved to 2-4-0 while Michigan Tech moves to 2-2-0, 0-0-0 CCHA.

How it Happened
The Nanooks got on the board first as Michael Citara continued his scoring streak for the Nanooks. The winger made it 1-0 only 2:04 into the first off of Dean Spak and Misha Danylov's first-career assists and points. The 1-0 lead lasted until 9:18 into the second when Peyton Platter scored his first goal of the season. He took a pass from Alexander Malinowski from behind the MTU net and after a missed shot, put the puck in the back of the net to make it 2-0 Nanooks in the second.

Michigan Tech made it a game with just eight seconds left in the second when Tyler Miller made it 2-1 Alaska. The 2-1 Nanooks' lead stuck until 5:02 in the third when Beau Courtney scored his first-career goal for the Nanooks. After a Dean Spak pass out front, Courtney settled and found the back of the net from the slot, extending the Nanooks lead to 3-1. Alexander Malinowki extended the lead even more to 4-1 on a penalty shot after MTU was called for covering the puck in the crease. Malinowski made a nifty move to beat the MTU netminder 8:11 into the third. Davis Borozinskis joined the party 19:21.6 into the third, making it a 5-1 final for the Nanooks and scoring his first-career goal and point for Alaska.
