Last Time Out
The Nanooks began the season with the Nordic Cup on Dec. 6-7, hosting Alaska Anchorage at the UAF Competition Ski Trails. The Nanooks fell to the Seawolves by 55.5 seconds over the two days.
On day one, they raced in the 10k Freestyle Interval Start, with the women finishing 2.5 seconds behind the Seawolves and the men trailing UAA by 48.5 seconds. On the women's side, Kendall Kramer led the way, finishing in 26:39.9. Tabitha Williams crossed the line next, recording a time of 27:55.5. Aila Berrigan was the third Nanook to finish, coming in at 30:43.4. Elsie Weiss (31:19.8) and Lucca Duke (4:30.3) were the final two finishers for the Nanooks. The women posted a top-three time of 1:25:18.8. On the men's side, Ben Dohlby was the top finisher for the Nanooks, finishing second in 23:53.1. Gabriele Rigaudo followed with the fifth-fastest time with a 24:28.1, while Aidan Hay and Cole Flowers finished right behind him, crossing the line in 24:30.9 and 24:40.6, respectively. Philipp Moosmayer (25:13.7), Matyas Pavek (25:16.3), Josh Baurick (25:47.9) and Blake Hanley (26:06.3) rounded out the finishers for the Nanooks. The men ended the day with a top-three time of 1:12:52.1.
On day two, the two teams competed in the Classic Sprint, with the women winning their race, finishing 3.39 seconds ahead of the Seawolves with a top-three time of 10:19.66. Kramer won the women's race, finishing 3.8 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in 3:20.92. Williams crossed the line in third, finishing in 3:25.30 and Weiss picked up a seventh-place finish with a 3:33.44. Katharine Brigham (3:35.93), Berrigan (3:43.34) and Duke (4:15.19) rounded things out for the 'Nooks, finishing in ninth, 11th and 12th. Flowers was the top finisher for the men in the classic sprint, finishing second in 2:46.14. Rigaudo and Dohlby finished sixth and seventh with times of 3:50.24 and 2:51.72, respectively. Moosmayer (2:53.42), Baurick (2:55.00) and Hay (2:55.02) finished eighth, ninth and tenth, while Hanley (2:57.56) and Pavek (3:00.54) took 13th and 17th. The men finished 7.89 seconds behind Alaska Anchorage.
What's to Come
Alaska will participate in the Utah Invite on Jan. 18 and 19 at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Trails in Midway, Utah. Day one will be a Classic Individual 7.5k, and day two will be a Freestyle Mass Start 15/20k.
