FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team is set to hold its annual Blue/Gold scrimmage on Saturday, August 24, with first serve set for 2 p.m. in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium.

The Nanooks enter the season ranked sixth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) after its preseason poll was released on Wednesday. They finished the 2023 season with a 14-18 record while going 7-11 in conference action, placing them tied for seventh in the GNAC.

The Nanooks are coming into the season with a team of 18 players, bringing back 12 returners to the squad. The six newcomers for the 2024 season are Rachel Pierce, a graduate outside hitter from Rockbridge, Ohio; Ashlyn White, a freshman setter from Goodyear, Ariz.; Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo, a junior opposite/outside hitter from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tessa Onaga, a sophomore libero/defensive specialist from Honolulu, Hawaii; Haylee Lyons a freshman pin-hitter from Kaimuki, Hawaii and Ava Kronenberg, a freshman middle blocker from Ankeny, Iowa.

Alaska's Blue/Gold scrimmage is free to the public. Fans can also watch the scrimmage live on the Alaska Nanooks YouTube page.

The Nanook's season begins on Thursday, August 29, at 8 p.m. AKST with a showdown against Chaminade in the Hawai'i - Alaska Challenge. They return to the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium for their first home match on Thursday, September 12, when they take on Felician in the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic, with first serve set for 7 p.m.
