ANCHORAGE - The Nanooks volleyball team made quick work of the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Thursday, Sept. 4. With the win, the Nanooks improved to 4-1 early in the season.
How it Happened
Alaska committed just 11 errors on the night en route to a dominant 3-0 sweep of CSUSM on Thursday. The Nanooks paired a steady attack with strong defense, holding the Cougars to only 19 kills, 18 errors, and a .010 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, Alaska secured a 25-18 win behind 16 kills, though eight errors kept things close. They cleaned things up in the second, tallying 14 kills with just three errors while limiting San Marcos to seven kills. The Nanooks closed the match in emphatic fashion, rolling to a 25-11 victory in the third with 13 kills and zero errors, swinging .542 to seal the sweep.
Inside the Numbers
- For a second-straight match, the Nanooks posted 43 kills in a sweep. Their .320 swing percentage is a season-high, and their 11 errors is a season-low.
- Haylee Lyons paced the Nanooks attack with 15 kills, and posted a .462 swing percentage. These are both career-highs for the redshirt-freshman.
- Kelli Wright followed with seven kills.
- Kellan Flynn finished the night with a game-high 14 digs. She added an ace.
- Cynphany Henderson and Ainsley Smith led the distribution for the 'Nooks; Henderson had 18 to lead Alaska, Smith followed with a dozen.
- The Nanooks had five team blocks tonight. Peri Hoshock had four block assists. Elena Guc added a pair of block assists.
- Alaska's .320 swing percentage was their best since Sept. 13, 2024 when they swept Slippery Rock (.324).
