CHATEAUROUX, France - Former Nanooks rifle member Sagen Maddalena finished fourth in the Women's 10m Air Rifle event for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Summer Games. The final, held in Chateauroux, France on Monday, July 29, saw the sharpshooter record a final round score of 207.7, just missing out on a podium finish by 1.4 points.
After finishing seventh in the qualifying round with a total score of 631.4, Maddalena secured her spot in the final, beating out eventual ninth-place finisher Keum Ji-hyeon of Korea by 0.5 points. Maddalena made it to the fifth round of the finals before missing out on the top three. This fourth-place result marks her best-ever finish at the Olympic Games, beating her fifth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games in Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions.
Maddalena, a native of Groveland, Calif., competed with the Nanooks from 2014-18, where she earned All-American honors seven times, four in Air Rifle and three in Smallbore. She made four straight appearances at the NCAA Rifle Championships with Alaska, placing fourth in Air Rifle in her final season as a Nanook.
Korea's Ban Hyo-jin took home gold in a shoot-off with second-placed Huang Yuting of China. Both shooters finished with a total score of 251.8, with Ban earning the victory 10.4-10.3 in the shoot-off. Rounding out the podium places was Audrey Gogniat of Switzerland, with 230.3 total points.
Maddalena's focus now turns to the Women's 50m Rifle Three Positions. The qualifying round will be held on Aug. 1 at noon CEST (2:00 a.m. AKST), and the final is set for the following morning at 9:30 a.m. CEST (Aug. 1 at 11:30 p.m. AKST).
