FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Nanooks rifle team is tied for second-place after day one of the Patriot Rifle Conference (PRC) Championships. The six-team conference competed in the smallbore discipline on Saturday, Feb. 3 at The X Count in Fort Wayne, Ind.Â
The No. 4-ranked Alaska Nanooks shot a 2348, their second-best smallbore score of the season. Alaska is tied with No. 6 Air Force (2348) and trails the No. 2-ranked TCU Horned Frogs (2349) in the day one standings. No. 8 Nebraska currently sits in fourth-place with a smallbore score of 2335, No. 9 Ohio State is in fifth with a 2332 and UTEP rounds out the day one standings with a 2276.Â
Alaska had the individual high-score on the day with
Rachael Charles leading the way. The sophomore posted a high-score of 592, a new season-high after firing back-to-back 591's on Nov. 19 and Dec. 6.
Akihito Shimizu followed with a 587 of his own. That score was his second-best of the season; his best came Thursday at Ohio State.
Marina Gonzalez Mazo was the third-highest scorer for the Nanooks, posting a 585. Sára Karasová was the final counting scorer for the Nanooks; she posted a 584.
Elli Spencer and
Matthew Stout rounded out the Nanooks student-athletes shooters. Spencer fired a 583 and Stout fired a 569.Â
Charles and Shimizu's scores qualified them for the PRC smallbore individual finals and Charles went on to take the 2024 PRC Smallbore Championship.
The 2024 PRC Championships wrap-up tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. AKST with the air rifle competition.Â
