Rifle Splits Three-Team Match at Ohio State; Defeats Buckeyes, Falls to Air Force

COLUMBUS, Ohio
- The Nanooks rifle team defeated Ohio State and fell to Air Force in a three-team matchup on Thursday, Feb. 1 at Converse Hall on the Ohio State campus. 

Air Force grabbed a pair of wins over Alaska and Ohio State, shooting an aggregate score of 4727. The Nanooks picked up the victory over OSU with a 4726 and Ohio State rounded out the standings with a 4711 on Thursday afternoon. 

In the top-10, the Nanooks had three athletes. Sára Karasová was the top-shooter for Alaska, taking fourth with an aggregate score of 1184. Her teammate, Rachael Charles, followed right behind in fifth with a score of 1183. Akihito Shimizu was the final top-10 finisher for the Nanooks, taking seventh with an 1182. Elli Spencer finished with an aggregate of 1174, Marina Gonzalez Mazo shot an 1173 and Matthew Stout was the final Nanooks shooter, posting an aggregate of 1167. In smallbore, the Nanooks posted a 2345. Air Force led the way with a 2347 outing in the discipline and Ohio State posted a 2344. Karasová was the top-finisher for the Nanooks in the discipline, shooting a 588 and taking fourth. Shimizu followed in fifth, shooting his own 588. Charles and Gonzalez Mazo were the final two counting scores for the Nanooks in the top-10 as Charles took ninth with a 585 and Gonzalez Mazo took 10th with a 584. 

Spencer and Stout were the final Nanooks shooters. Spencer took 12th, shooting a smallbore score of 581 and Stout took 18th with his score of 576. 

Air rifle was also close as the Nanooks edged out Air Force in the discipline scoring with a 2381. The Falcons followed by one point, finishing with a 2380 and Ohio State shot an air rifle score of 2367. Rachael Charles had the high-score in air rifle, posting a 598. Sára Karasová followed giving the Nanooks two in the top-three. She finished in third with a 596. Shimizu was the final Nanooks athlete in the top-10, taking ninth with a 594 and Elli Spencer was the final counting shooter for the Nanooks, posting a 593. 

Matthew Stout took 14th in air rifle, posting a 591 and Marina Gonzalez Mazo took 17th with a 589. 

All three teams will see each other again on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3-4 at the 2024 Patriot Rifle Conference Championships at the X Count in Fort Wayne, Ind.
