Rifle Heads to Colorado for Pair of Weekend Matches

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 1 team in the nation, your Alaska Nanooks rifle team, will shoot twice this weekend at No. 7 Air Force and against No. 5 TCU in a neutral site match.

  • Alaska will be on the road two more times to close out 2024. Following their Colorado road trip, the Nanooks will head east to face The Citadel and Georgia Southern. 
  • Freshman Amanda Pettersen is tied for second in the nation for aggregate average. Through two matches, she is averaging an aggregate score of 1188.5 with a 590.5 smallbore average and 597 air rifle average. 
  • Fellow-freshman Lucie Kissenberger is fifth in the nation with an aggregate average of 1186.5 with a smallbore average of 588.5 and air rifle average of 598. 
  • The Nanooks sit at the top of the team averages by more than eight points. They are averaging an aggregate score of 4745.5 while West Virginia follows in second with an average of 4737.25.

Air Force Falcons

Air Force is 6-0 already in the young season. Their wins have come against Nebraska (4719-4105), UTEP (4719-4018, 4717-4663), Army (4721-4674, 4721-4650), and Navy (4721-4695). They are currently ranked No. 7 in the CRCA Rankings and averaging 4719.5 on the year. They are led by Lauren Hurley, who is averaging an aggregate score of 1184. Lily Wytko follows with an aggregate average of 1179.75. 

TCU Horned Frogs
The defending National Champions enter the weekend with a 2-1 record. The No. 5 team in the country defeated Navy and VMI (4716-4704-4536-4498) before grabbing dual wins over UTEP (4717-4672) and Nebraska (4728-4686). On the season, they are averaging an aggregate of 4724.5. TCU's top shooters are Katie Zaun who is averaging an aggregate average of 1188.75, and Mikole Hogan, who is averaging a score of 1182.75. 

What's to Come
The Nanooks will come home after this road trip before closing out 2024 on the road at The Citadel and Georgia Southern on Nov. 21-22. 

World University Games
Good luck to Sára Karasová of the Nanooks rifle team as she competes at the World University Championships in New Delhi, India with team Czech Republic. Shooting will take place Nov. 9-13.
