FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks rifle team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 4749-4700 victory over Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 12.
"Today was a really tidy performance led by our freshmen." said head coach
Will Anti, "They shot well in air again and improved in smallbore. Heading into the weekend I was expecting higher smallbore and maybe not air gun quite at this caliber, but it's not a bad surprise. Clearly we are in a great place in air and have some easy ground to makeup in prone and kneeling."
Amanda Pettersen led the way once again for the Nanooks. She finished with an aggregate score of 1190, a new personal-best score.
Lucie Kissenberger followed in second with an 1188. "Amanda and Lucie were the highlights for today." added Anti, "They were so composed as they closed huge matches. They are very in-tune with themselves and can make quick adjustments to changing conditions. That's very fun for us to coach and it allows them to perform even when they are quite excited and the nerves creep in."
Rachael Charles cracked the top-three with an aggregate of 1185. Sára Karasová took fourth with a score of 1183,
Cecelia Ossi followed with her own 1183 and
Elli Spencer took sixth with an 1181.
Teagan Perkowski was the final 'Nooks shooter in the top-10 with a ninth-place finish and score of 1175. "Teagan shot great today. He did a lot of learning on day one and took that into day two. Matt was much of the same. He crushed his air gun match. We are seeing it daily in practice from him, now we are working to transition it into matches."
In smallbore, the Nanooks took the top-three spots. Pettersen fired a 592, Kissenberger fired a 590 and Charles shot a 589. Ossi took fourth with a 588. Karasová followed right behind with a 585 and Spencer took seventh with a 585. Perkowski shot a 583,
Matthew Stout fired a 578 and Tobias Bernhoft-Osa shot a 573.
In air rifle, the Nanooks fired another 2390 discipline score, besting Ohio State 2390-2365. Pettersen led the way with a 598. Karasová took second with her own 598 and Kissenberger followed in third with a 598 of her own as well.
Elli Spencer fired a 596 for fourth, Charles shot a 596 for fifth, Ossi shot a 595 for sixth and Stout took seventh with a 595. Perkowski and Bernhoft-Osa rounded out the Nanooks as Perkowski took 10th with a 592 and Bernhoft-Osa fired a 582.
"Our senior crew was solid both days. Sára has entered her air gun era. Rachael saved her match with a stunning standing and Ossi clung hard both days in smallbore to keep the team score afloat. We are excited to have an extended time before the next match to take some of this information and adjust moving forward." ended Anti.
Alaska is back in action at Air Force in early November.
