ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Nanooks rifle team opened up 2024 with a sweep at Navy. A day after their first win of the year, the Nanooks defeated the Midshipmen 4724-4704. This improved the 'Nooks to 7-2, 3-2 PRC on the season.
Alaska grabbed the win in both disciplines; in smallbore they outshot the Navy 2344-2336. In air rifle, the Nanooks posted a 2380 to Navy's 2368.
In the individual standings, the Nanooks posted five top-10 finishes.
Rachael Charles grabbed first for the second-straight day, shooting an aggregate score of 1186. Sára Karasová followed with a second-place finish and aggregate score of 1182.
Akihito Shimizu was the final top-five finisher for Alaska, taking fifth with a score of 1178.
Elli Spencer took sixth with an aggregate score of 1178 and
Marina Gonzalez Mazo took seventh with a score of 1172. Karasová took the top-spot in the individual smallbore standings, posting a 589 to lead the way.
Rachael Charles followed with a 588, taking second.

Akihito Shimizu were the final two counting shooters in smallbore, taking fifth and sixth in the discipline. Spencer fired a 584 and Shimizu shot a 583.
Marina Gonzalez Mazo took seventh with a 583,
Matthew Stout took 11th with a 576 and
Katrina Demerle took 12th with a 576. Tobias Bernhoft-Osa was the final Nanooks shooter in smallbore taking 17th with a 567.
In air rifle, the Nanooks took one through four to post their 2880.
Rachael Charles led the way shooting a 598. Shimizu followed in second, shooting a 595. Spencer followed in third with a 594 and Karasová took fourth, rounding out the Nanooks scoring with a 593. Navy grabbed fifth through eighth and
Marina Gonzalez Mazo was the next Nanooks athlete in the standings, taking ninth with a 589. Tobias Bernhoft-Osa took 12th with a 586,
Matthew Stout took 14th with a 584 and
Katrina Demerle took 16th with a 583.
The Nanooks are back in action on Feb. 1 at Ohio State as they take on the Buckeyes and the Air Force Academy ahead of the PRC Championships on Feb. 3-4.
