LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Nanooks swim team finished day one of the PCSC Championships with 119 points and are in sixth place after the first events.
Payton Wojciechowicz led the way for the Nanooks on day one as she qualified for the 1000-yard freestyle finals. In the finals, Wojciechowicz pushed across with a second-place finish and time of 10:21.95. Her time was a lifetime best, an NCAA B-cut, and her time is the second-best time in school history. Her 500-yard time at the start of the 1000 race was also a lifetime best and the seventh-best time in the event.
Tori Shoemaker finished the final with a 10
th-place finish and time of 10:39.11.
Kylee Carter rounded out the Nanooks in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:26.05 and a 35
th-place finish.
In the fifth event, the Nanooks grabbed 12
th-place in the 200-yard medley relay. The team was made up of
Adeline Berry,
Lainey Lioi,
Shannon McCallum and
Ali Pecore and finished with a time of 1:51.98. Lioi began, posting a time of 29.32, McCallum was the second leg and posted a time of 31.64 before Berry and Pecore posted times of 26.99 and 24.03. Alaska followed up with a top-10 finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay as a team of
Caroline McCormick,
Sophia Ruppert, Pecore and Wojciechowicz finished in 7:56.43 for a ninth-place finish.
On day one the Nanooks posted 10 season-best times, three lifetime bests and one NCAA B-cut.
They're back in the pool tomorrow morning for day two of the PCSC Championships at East Los Angeles College.
