USAFA, Colo. - The Alaska Nanooks rifle team ended the 2023 part of their NCAA schedule with a win at the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Alaska outshot the Falcons 4719-4709 to move to 4-2, 3-2 PRC on the season.Â
In the individual standings,
Rachael Charles led the way, posting a match-high aggregate score of 1187. Sára Karasová joined her teammate with a top-three finish, taking third with an aggregate score of 1184.
Katrina Demerle was the final Nanooks shooter to crack the top-five as the freshman fired an 1177. The final Nanooks in the top-10 finished seventh through 10th as
Akihito Shimizu took seventh-place with an aggregate score of 1174.
Marina Gonzalez Mazo followed in eighth with an aggregate of 1169. Elijah Spencer took ninth with a score of 1168 and Tobias Bernhoft-Osa cracked the top-10 with a 10th-place finish and score 1161.Â
The Nanooks grabbed a three-point advantage after the smallbore discipline, outshooting the Falcons 2335-2332. Charles led the way in smallbore, posting the only score over 590, ending the day with a 591. Air Force took the next two individual finishers in the discipline and Karasová followed in fourth for Alaska with a 585.
Katrina Demerle followed behind in fifth-place, shooting a 584.
Elli Spencer followed in seventh with a 580, Gonzalez Mazo fired a 579 for eighth and Shimizu followed in ninth with a 578 smallbore outing to end the Nanooks' top-10 finishers. Bernhoft-Osa and Stout rounded out the finishers for Alaska as Bernhoft-Osa finished 11th with a 570 and Stout took 13th with a 564. In the air rifle individual standings, Karasová led the group with a 599. Charles followed in third and Shimizu took fourth, rounding out the top-five. Charles fired a 596 to cap off her aggregate-high day. Shimizu also fired a 596 to finish his 1174 aggregate score.
Katrina Demerle was the final counter in the top-10, taking seventh with a 593. Bernhoft-Osa took 10th with a 591 while Gonzalez Mazo took 11th with a 590.Â
Spencer and Stout were the final Nanooks shooters as Specer took 13th with a 588 and Stout fired a 586, earning 14th-place in air.Â
The Nanooks will be back in action as a team on Jan. 20-21, 2024 at Navy. Alaska will have athletes shooting at the Winter Air Gun this week as well at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.Â
