LANGLEY, B.C. - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to the #7 University of Texas at Tyler Patriots on Saturday, Nov. 4. With the loss, Alaska is now 0-2, 0-0 GNAC on the season.
Destiny Reimers opened up scoring for the Nanooks. Her three-pointer gave Alaska an early 3-2 lead. The two teams would trade baskets, as Kayla Johnson hit a layup to keep the lead at one, 5-4. The Patriots would respond, rattling off a 7-0 run. Johnson responded, hitting a jumper to end the Patriot run. A 4-0 UT Tyler gave the Patriots an eight-point lead after one, 15-7. Reimers traded a three-point bucket with UT Tyler to open up the second quarter. The Patriots stretched their lead to 14 before Emma McKenney hit a three to end the run. A UT Tyler gave the Patriots a 25-13 advantage with 5:14 left in the half. Anna Nevison and McKenney knocked down consecutive triples to cut the Patriot lead to just six, 25-19. A 4-1 run from UT Tyler ended the half, Nanooks down nine, 29-20.Â
Both teams locked in defensively to start the third quarter, as both teams began scoreless for nearly the first three minutes. Two Patriot free throws extended the lead to 11, 31-20. An Emma Wass jumper cut the UT Tyler lead to single digits once again. This would be the last time the Nanooks cut the lead to single digits.
Emma McKenney led the way in scoring for the Nanooks with nine points on all three-pointers. Emma Wass led the way with 15 rebounds, including 14 defensive rebounds.Â
The Nanooks will wrap up their time at the DII Canadian Tip-Off tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. AKT versus Colorado Mesa University.Â
